Friendship...

friend·ship/ˈfrendˌSHip/

  2. A relationship between friends.

So recently I have been having a bit of a bumpy ride in the friendship department (que the violins). For me having copious amount of friends is not a big deal, I would rather have a small group of friends who I know I can truly depend on compared to a massive amount of friends who don't really give a toss about me or my feelings.

I guess things started to change when I started college. Now I'm not that naive to think that things would stay the same as before college but I didn't expect this one friendship to change so rapidly.

For a bit of background information I met my friend at the start of secondary school we got on well and started hanging out more. Over time are friendship grew and I regarded her as one of my closet friends which was kind of strange as we are like complete opposites of each other. Throughout the summer of 2011 I spent a lot of time with her.It was fun and we had a good time.

And then we started college. The friend who I'm talking about has always had more friends than me and knew more people than me when we started college. In all honesty I did expect that when we started college I would be seeing a lot less of her but now sometimes whole weeks go by without me barely speaking to her. And I must admit it does hurt. To have someone in your life who then so quickly vanishes is strange and sometimes can be a lot to get your head around.

I then found it odd when, although she would be with the other group of friends but needed something like money or a lift somewhere she would always come over to me and ask. I started to feel like I was being used and she only ever wanted to talk to me when she needed something. When your in this situation it's hard to know what to do. Do I confront and tell her how I'm feeling? Or do I just leave and allow her to just speak to me when she wants something?

Me being the most passive person in the world decided on the latter as I hate confrontation and didn't want to make the situation worse than it already was. But then when I have spare moments to think about the whole friendship/lack of if I kick myself because surely if I'm feeling a little down and hurt about the situation I should man-up a and talk to her because if she was a true friend she should care about my feelings.

Overall I think I know truly that our friendship will never be the same again. It sucks but I guess that's life and if someone is no longer in your life there is a reason why they are not there.
